Packing My Kit for a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings changed how I pack. Four cities, four different problems. The kit gets smaller every time — not because I have stopped caring, but because I now know what actually matters.

I have done weddings in Jaipur, Udaipur, Goa, and Dubai. Each one changed something about how I prepared for the next one.

The one thing that never gets cut

The airbrush machine. Every destination I have worked in has been warmer than Delhi, more humid, or had an outdoor ceremony where both hit at once. Silicone-based airbrush foundation is the only base formula I have found that holds through all of that without needing a full redo mid-day. I have had brides in the middle of a Goa outdoor ceremony look exactly as they did two hours earlier. That does not happen with traditional foundation in those conditions.

What I adjust by location

Goa is humidity, not heat. I use less product overall and rely on blotting more. Adding product in high humidity just makes it look heavy faster. I have learned to work lighter there than I normally would.

Jaipur and Udaipur in winter are dry. The skin needs more moisture prep than usual, and I bring a heavier moisturizer and sometimes a hydrating face mist just for mid-ceremony touch-ups. Dry air pulls moisture from the skin faster than you would expect, especially during a long outdoor pheras.

Dubai is the most unpredictable. The temperature gap between outdoors (40-plus degrees) and indoors (aggressively air-conditioned) is harder to dress makeup for than consistent heat. I have had to do partial touch-ups there that I would not normally need. Now I factor it in from the start.

What I have stopped bringing

Full-sized bottles of anything that comes in a travel version. Products I have never actually used in a session but carry "just in case." Anything with a refrigeration requirement. The kit I bring for a Goa summer wedding is about a third smaller than what I would bring for a Delhi winter event. Both are fully equipped for what the environment demands.

The one thing most people forget

Buffer time for transit delays before any session start. I now add at least one extra hour to every destination booking, regardless of how straightforward the travel looks on paper. Nothing derails a wedding morning like getting to the venue late because of a flight delay or a long queue at baggage claim. Plan for it before it happens.
