I get asked this almost every time a bride books a trial. The short answer is: it depends on your skin type. The longer answer is below.

What is HD makeup

HD makeup uses micronized pigments - very fine particles that do not sit heavily on skin. The finish is smooth, camera-ready, and it works well in high-resolution photography. It is applied with brushes or sponges, the same way traditional makeup is, but the formula is different.

What is airbrush makeup

Airbrush uses a compressor to spray a very thin layer of silicone-based foundation onto the skin. The coverage is buildable, the finish is very even, and because it is silicone-based, it is water-resistant and tends to last longer than traditional foundation - especially in heat or humidity.

Oily skin - go with airbrush

If your skin tends to go oily through the day, airbrush almost always performs better. The silicone base does not break down the same way water-based foundation does. I have had brides with oily skin go twelve hours in a Delhi summer and still look good in photos.

Dry skin - HD usually works better

Silicone-based airbrush can sit differently on very dry or textured skin. HD makeup with the right primer tends to look more natural on skin that is already prone to dryness. The prep work matters a lot here - moisturizer and primer are not optional steps.

For photography

Both look good in photos when applied correctly. The difference shows up mostly in outdoor natural light, where airbrush can look slightly more skin-like because of how thin the application is. In indoor flash photography, there is not much difference if the formula is right.
